You do not need to be overflowing with money to start investing for your future and the future of this world. The biggest misconception about investing is that you can only start investing when you have X amount of money. Many people refrain from learning about investing because they believe it is not within their budget/cannot afford to invest but in fact, this is all a myth!
I’m not wealthy enough to invest
You do not need to be the wealthiest person in the world or be a wolf of Wall Street to start investing. The truth of the matter is that all you need to do is start. The beauty of investing is that its intent is to help you grow your wealth. That is why investing is mostly for the long-term.
Long-term investing will grow your wealth. Long-term investing is not only less risky especially for those who have just started investing, but it will also allow you to diversify your portfolio, and once the dividends pile up, you can do whatever you want with them (hopefully reinvest).
There are many variables to consider when you are beginning to invest. If you want to do it all yourself, if you want to invest with an investment company, what you want to invest in, etc. Overall, you get to decide how much or how little you want to start with.
So how much money do you need to start investing?
Well, it all highly depends on what you are investing in. Investing in mutual funds lets you purchase small pieces of many different stocks in a single transaction. Mutual funds allow you to diversify your investment portfolio to avoid the risk of “putting all your eggs into one basket”.
With an individual stock, you can buy a single share or a few shares of the company of your choice. Stock prices fluctuate day-to-day (check out Yahoo Finance, to keep track of stock prices). It also depends on your personal investment goal, whether that is investing for retirement, for example.
If you want to start small, you need to make sure you find a broker or investment company that will have your back. Remember that it is all up to you. You can start small and increase your contributions as time goes on. Regardless of your goal, it is never too late or too early to invest as long as you start!
How do you start investing?
We are so glad you asked! This is a very exciting adventure to begin. There are many ways you can go about starting your investment journey. However, we do think there are a few important things to consider before starting to invest.
- Determine your values and goals
- Understanding what your values and goals are is an incredibly important step. You need to have a clear idea of what values are important to share with a company.
- Do your research!
- Consider all the types of investment opportunities out there. From IRA’s to mutual funds, micro investing, and major stock market stalking, there is something for everyone. Additionally, we happen to have a ton of blog posts dedicated to helping you understand investing.
- Determine your starting amount
- As previously mentioned, this part is very different from person to person. The amount of money you decide to begin investing is a crucial factor. Remember, investing is for the long-run!
- Find a management company
- Overall, it is best to do some research into finding investment companies to work with. Reputation, credibility, personality, communication, and connection are all important factors to consider.
Once you have gone through all of these steps, then you can open your investment account. The hard work is done! Now all you have to do is sit back and watch your money work for you.
Let’s get started!
Here is the most exciting part, at Invested Interests, there is no minimum to start investing! That means that you can get started with us even if you do not have a ton of money to get started with. While some companies may require a minimum investment to start, that is not the story with Invested Interests. So if you only have 100 dollars to invest per month it is better to start investing in something rather than nothing. It is not so much about how much you invest but a time game for long-term investing.
With that in mind, we also take pride in the fact that we are dedicated to impact investing. We have incredible portfolio options with the intent to make the world a better place. From sustainability to human rights and diversity, to peace, we just about have it all.
